Monthly Lending and Intermediation Snapshot

Updated: August 16, 2010

The Monthly Lending and Intermediation Snapshot collects quantitative information on three major categories of lending – consumer, commercial, and other activities – based on banks’ internal reporting, as well as commentary to explain changes in lending levels for each category. In addition, the snapshot contains a qualitative section that provides market color on lending demand and credit standards generally to help Treasury and the public meaningfully and accurately interpret the quantitative data.

Treasury began collecting Snapshot data in January 2009 from the twenty largest recipients of Capital Purchase Program (CPP) funds. The reporting universe expanded to twenty-two institutions in April 2009. Institutions that have repaid the funds they received through the CPP no longer submit Snapshot data. Consequently, Treasury no longer publishes a summary analysis, as aggregate month to month changes are no longer meaningful with the changing reporting universe. Treasury continues to publish the individual bank submissions and the underlying data from the banks that continue to submit Snapshot data.
